Bemærkning Jakob Nielsen (1890 - 1959) was Professor of Mathematics at the Polytechnical Institute of Copenhagen (now the Technical University of Denmark) and from 1951 at Copenhagen University. In 1954 he was a candidate for the Executive Board of UNESCO.

Jacob Christian Georg Jacobsen (1895 - 1965) was employed at the Institute from 1920 and was primarily involved in the study of radioactivity. He led the effort to construct the Institute's Cyclotron and became the Research Leader at the Institute's research centre at Risø.

The European Organization for Nuclear Research, known as CERN, is a European research organization that operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world. Established in 1954, the organization is based in a northwest suburb of Geneva on the Franco–Swiss border and has 23 member states.
