About arkiv.dk

On arkiv.dk, you can search through archive material held by over 580 Danish local history and town archives as well as by a smaller number of special collections.

The material that is already digitized can be seen here on arkiv.dk, and newly digitalized records are constantly being added. However, there is still a long way to go before everything is digitized, so in many cases, you would have to contact the archive concerned directly in order to see the material.

Please email the archive in good time, so the material could be ready for you when you arrive.

Many archives have a backlog of material that is yet to be catalogued, and which therefore cannot be seen on arkiv.dk, therefore, if you cannot find what you seek, you ought to contact the archive directly.

The information available on arkiv.dk is supplied by the participating archives. If you have questions or further information about the material, please contact the archive that holds the material.

You can send an email to the archive in question by clicking on the icon Contact the archive found on each catalogue entry or you can find the contact details for the archives on: arkivvejviser.dk.

About us

Arkiv.dk is operated by Arkibas ApS (Arkibas Ltd.,) which is owned by the Danish archives jointly through the Association of Local History Archives (Sammenslutningen af Lokalarkiver). Our website arkiv.dk is based on the digital cataloguing system Arkibas. Arkibas ApS was established in 1987, and the first version of the cataloguing software was launched in June 1989. The present version of Arkibas was taken into use in November 2014, and arkiv.dk was launched in February 2015. We make changes regularly to the functionality of Arkibas og arkiv.dk.

Arkiv.dk was founded with financial support from the funds, A.P. Møller og Hustru Chastine Mc-Kinney Møllers Fond til almene Formaal (A.P. Møller and his wife Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller’s Fund for general purposes) and Den A.P. Møllerske Støttefond (the A.P. Møller Support Fund).
